Planning Update #1

We’ve made some headway. We’ve planned out our annual route and departure date as well as pre-booked a few campsites. Here’s our plan so far.

  1. Departure Day: September 15, 2020
We will leave our home in Colorado on September 15 and start heading east for the winter. Our first stop will be a short 3 hr drive from home to Lake McConaughy where we will stay for a few days. We will use this time to double & triple check we have everything we need, and everything in the camper is in working order for the longer haul.

Once we wrap up at Lake McConaughy we will drop into Ohio to see some family and then slowly make our way to Maryland by October 1st.
  2. Month 1 – October 2020
We’re going to split up October between Maryland and Virginia. We haven’t picked a spot for Maryland yet but we did land on Cherry Stone Family Camping Resort for the second half of the month. Cherry Stone is a bit outside of our budget for this trip, 15 days came in at around $1,300 but it did have some of the amenities we were looking for.
  3. Month 2 – November 2020
For the month of November, we will hunker down at the Lakewood Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC. This will be our second visit to the park. This park has so much for the kids to do and fell perfectly into our monthly budget of under $900/mo. We were also able to reserve a beachside spot which we’re thrilled about.
  4. Month 3 – December 2020
For December we plan on splitting our time between Cape Canaveral and Clear Water Beach, FL. We haven’t nailed down any campsites yet but plan on having those booked within a week or so.
  5. Month 4 – January 2021

During the month of Jan, we plan on being near Mobile Alabama. We have a few potential RV parks on our radar and are currently awaiting pricing. One RV resort we did check out was Buena Vista Coastal RV Resort and it was wayyyy too much. For a larger site, you’re going to spend around $2K/week. Yes, per week…
  6. Month 5 – February 2021

We night skip out a bit early from Alabama so we can get down to Lousiana for New Years. There are a few coastal RV resorts we’re looking at as well but haven’t yet made a decision.
  7. Month 6 March – 2021

For the month of March, we will likely be traveling a bit more to work our way to the west coast for the spring/summer setup of our trip. Some target spots for us include Dallas or San Antonio, Albuquerque, Phoenix and then Vegas.
  8. Month 7 – April 2021

For our 7th month on the road, we plan on splitting the month up between San Diego, Los Angeles and north of San Francisco. This should set us up for some nice weather for our northern trip. We have already been to a lot of Westcoast RV parks so we’ll prob look into staying at a few of our favorites from prior trips.
  9. Month 8 – May 2021

Weather should be getting pretty good right about now. We’ll use the month of May to explore Oregon, Washinton, and Vancouver.
  10. Month 9 – June 2021

This is about as far as we’ve gotten with planning so far. We’re planning on using this month to explore Western Canada as well as make our way into parts of Juneau, Alaska
  11. Month 10 – July 2021

Month 10 will be dedicated to touring central Canada. We’ll be working our way towards Minnesota which will likely be our re-entry point in August.
  12. Month 11 – 12 – TBD

This has been quite the adventure to set up so far. Some of the things we’ve considered when booking our travel include access to the internet, cell coverage, things for the kids to do, large RV pull-through spaces (when available), shops, restaurants etc.

More to follow.
